1. What data we collect
To help you find a compatible roommate, we collect the following information:
- Name — used to display your profile to potential matches.
- Email address — for authentication, account recovery, and notifications.
- Profile information — including age, gender, occupation, photos, location, budget, move-in date and short description.
- Preferences — lifestyle attributes such as cleanliness, schedule, social level, smoking and pet preferences.
- Messages — when you chat with a match, the content of those messages is stored so the conversation can be delivered.
- Activity data — likes, passes, and matches, used to personalize your recommendations.
2. How we use your data
- Matching users — to compute compatibility scores and suggest relevant roommates.
- Improving the service — anonymous, aggregated signals help us refine the matching algorithm and product experience.
- Communication — we send transactional emails (new match, new message, account-related notices). You can opt out of non-essential emails at any time.
3. Data storage and sharing
- Your data is stored securely on managed cloud infrastructure with encryption in transit and at rest.
- Access is protected by row-level security and authentication.
- We do not sell your data to third parties. We only share data with service providers strictly necessary to operate Cooliving (e.g. email delivery, hosting), under appropriate data-processing agreements.
4. Your rights
Under GDPR and similar regulations, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Modify or correct your profile information at any time from your settings.
- Delete your account — you can permanently remove your account and all associated data from the Profile page (Danger zone).
- Withdraw consent for non-essential communications.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
5. Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile, photos, swipes, matches and messages are permanently removed from our systems, except where we are legally required to keep limited records.
